Break out the Happy Dance!
While not quite ready for a full write up and entry into the Photo Library, this fellow is newsworthy. Only one company in the USA seems to be offering Hadeco’s new small-flowered ‘Fire Dancer’. With some trepidation an order for three very small bulbs was placed. Upon arrival, my fears of likely mislabeling seemed well founded, as the bulbs included Hadeco’s own plastic stick tags. The company manufactured tags were for those of the more familiar orange-red mini ‘Fire Cracker’. Rats! Foiled I thought. A few patient weeks of waiting later, a deep red bud opened to an impressively rich mahogany red. By golly, we do indeed have the correct variety. Bravo! Additionally, as nice as the flower color is, the tepal edges are wonderfully tailored with fine crimping. This may be the best replacement for the venerable heirloom ‘Scarlet Baby’ seen to date. Each minuscule bulb is sending 2-3 scapes, making them a bargain to boot. Get ’em while you can.
