You’re no Daphne, Darling
The quest to add the bold and richly shaded ‘Daphne’ to the site has not gone as had been hoped. Usually the newest cultivars to hit the market are usually available with correct labeling, but not this time out. As posted here last December, one of the bulbs bought locally was the brilliant but obviously different ‘Monaco’. Since I had two more bulbs on order from Royal Colors (usually quite reliable for labeling correctness) I shrugged it off. The first of these other two bulbs opened a couple of weeks ago, and buoyed my spirits, it was the deeply colored and dramatic ‘Daphne’. I celebrated with sparklers and baked a cake. Then this next one opened. My second ‘Daphne’ isn’t bold (but yes, beautiful) at all, but it is new to this site. I am happy to be able to post ‘Darling’ to the Photo Library this season, but what is going on? One for three are not my kind of odds for the money one must pony up for these bulbs. The only way to turn this into a positive; two new entries will adorn Emaryllis this season, instead of one. ‘Daphne’ herself will be has been posted soon, but I won’t be choosing the best scape from among several for her close up, just whatever that one bulb can manage.
